I LOVE Soul! Truly...one of my favs. And I have not figured out how not to cry at the end, which I also kinda love :) Just so good. Thanks for the kind comment and fun reminder about Soul!
As usual your story strikes a chord. For me and for my clients. if they lack courage to play outside the music they will not innovate and if they cannot play well with their band (team) it can be disruptive. but then Jazz was supposed to be disruptive. An interesting conundrum. Thank you.
Thanks, Jim! And yes, there is perhaps a conundrum, too, in the image/metaphor! But maybe stepping out in improv faith does do some disturbing (indeed, Jesus calls people to "follow me" not to keep the world the same but loose the chains of unjustice, free the prisoner, lift up the poor etc... and none of that unfolds without some holy disruption :))
A great way to think about the team meetings that are coming up. I need to pray for inspiration to play the improve that the Spirit shares with loudly and with confidence. Thanks as always.
A really good piece, thank you. And yes, those times when the sheet music doesn't work can be transformational if we let them. Though I don't know much about jazz, I was reminded of John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme", which I'm told is a kind of hymn of praise to God for breaking through in his life. Time for some more jazz in my life...
Thanks, Peter! And yes, A Love Supreme is so powerful on a number of levels - including the praise he offers through it. Thank you again, Peter! Enjoy the jazz :)
It is so hard to not follow the script. I'm learning to trust that God has given me the strengths and gifts I need to take the steps I'm suppose to, Thanks for the inspiration.
Nora - thanks for the honest reply. So so true. I feel the same thing and I think wrote about it because it feels so real. Blessings as you continue leaning into that trust...
Just reading about improvising strikes fear into my being. Clearly some work to be done. I'll read this piece again later, as in "try again." Thanks. I think I need this.
Tell me you’ve seen Pixar’s Soul? Maybe we should all be “jazzing” though life. Really enjoyed this piece.

Indeed...and sure thing!

I feel that, Beverly! And yes, I hope second reading illumines something about where or how the next note or two might be played.
Beautifully written with your soul in it....thanks!
Thanks for the encouragement, Sharon!
