Again a true success of a story and you keep giving us things to think about and use your words for helping some of us working thru our bad days! Thank you again and God Bless🙏🏻 Linda A
so THIS is how you do what you do! I’ve commented many times that I didn’t understand and now you are answering for me! Thank you. Currently I’m re-reading Beach Music by Pat Conroy (one of my all time favorites) and I agree that the details are the attraction to the story. The first time I read the book, I’d not been to either Charleston SC or Rome and reading was like visiting there. Now I’ve been to Rome and the details cause vivid personal memories which enhances his story more.
Thanks... and books that get re-read are a gift. There are so few that reach that 'status' - and, yes, great point about reading after visiting the place described. There is no doubt that the details land all the more squarely/fully when've you've been there or experienced (first-hand) the thing being described.
I've never read Beach Music (loved his Lords of Discipline when I read it years ago) but I know he has some great one-liners all over.
In Beach Music the likes of...
"“Carolina beach music," Dupree said, coming up on the porch. "The holiest sound on earth.” (makes me think of my college days)
And... "“Her laughter was a shiny thing, like pewter flung high in the air.” Wow. What great description in such few words.
